one year ago

Well, approximately anyway, I re-taught myself to knit and actually kept knitting. My mom gave me a lesson a few months earlier, but it didn't stick with me. I don't remember exactly what day it was during that week, but it was probably Friday or Saturday. I made a flag. It wasn't supposed to be a flag, but I didn't know how to bind-off so I left it on the needle and waved it around occasionally. It was a blue acrylic, garter stitch, quadrilateral on a pink aluminum needle. It's probably still in my apartment somewhere. It may even be on that needle.

I had a slow start, but I think I have evolved fairly quickly into a competent knitter. My first real project included short-rows. My second project had cables and dpns. My third project was a pair of socks. I can knit socks, have completed a sweater (if you don't count the lack of zipper) and am about 1/3 of the way through another. I can knit while walking, reading, listening to an audiobook, on the bus or watching TV. I enjoy knitting much more than crocheting, though I learned to crochet first. It may have to do with me being better at knitting than I am at crocheting and the variety of knitting patterns. I found knitting to be much more intuitive for me.

Wow! You progressed a lot faster then I did. I have been knitting for about 3 years (we are not counting when my Mom tried to teach me when I was a kid) and I didn't start knitting things that were not primarily rectangles or squares until about a year ago when I got bit by the sock-knitting-addiction bug :)

Hi, I'm bringing my knitting project over tonight instead of the crochet - I need some help. And some shepard's pie.

I've been knitting about the same amount of time as you have but you have taken on some things that I've yet to tackle. I got a great giggle out of the flag, I did the same thing! Although eventually I kept going and it became a scarf.
